From the Field: October 2026

The northern lights, the weather, the wildlife: none of it can be guaranteed. Our CEO explains how designing each itinerary around the main reason a client travels protects the trip when Lapland does not cooperate.

Purple and Green Northern Lights above a Lapland Forest

As the winter season approaches, something should be said out loud: some of what clients come to Lapland for cannot be promised.

The northern lights are a natural phenomenon, and they are not always as bright as in the photos, because a camera lens is far more sensitive than the human eye. Clouds can hide them entirely. A warm spell can create dangerous snow conditions that limit which activities are possible. Extreme cold can be too much for some excursions. Wild animals are very hard to spot outside a reserve.

For many travelers this is a once-in-a-lifetime journey to one of the most remote places they will ever visit, and some fall in love and must return. They deserve to feel the destination the way they imagined it before they left. A catalogue may answer with promises.

We must answer with design.

What is the main focus of the trip: the northern lights, Sámi culture, a real expedition, bringing the family together? We build around it. The right length of stay, the accommodation that fits, the best supplier for each experience, all serving the same purpose. Shorter visits need the most care, because there is less room to recover. For the northern lights, that means more nights, flexible evenings and several viewing locations. They do not guarantee the sky, but they improve the odds, and the odds are the part we control. For a multi-generational family, it means a pace and a base that take everyone into account. For a multi-destination trip, it means the same standard and rhythm from the first stop to the last.

We do not control Lapland. We make sure every itinerary, even in an unexpected moment, still serves the main reason the client came. That is where local knowledge and creativity matter the most.

That is the reality of the work. We accept it, own it, and help you deliver it.

Every client has a deeper reason for traveling to Lapland. Our travel design team is ready to find it with you and match with the right elements to meet their expectations.
