Summer Sledding in Lapland with Views from the Fells
Feel the thrill of summer sledding on Lapland’s scenic slopes. Glide down winding steel tracks at your own pace, surrounded by stunning views of Levi, Ruka, or Ounasvaara. Safe, fun, and unforgettable for all ages.
What to Expect during your Summer Sledding experience
Summer sledding brings the excitement of Lapland’s winter slopes into the warmer months. Designed for both beginners and thrill seekers, these tracks let you control your own pace, from a gentle glide to speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour.
At Levi, the track begins at the Koutalaki summit, reached by the Express lift from Zero Point. The 800 meter route winds down the fell with a total elevation drop of 114 meters. One and two person sleds are available, making it perfect for families, couples, or friends who want to share the ride. The ascent by lift is included in your ticket, allowing you to enjoy panoramic views before your descent.
In Rovaniemi, the Ounasvaara Summer Sled Track offers another scenic ride above the city’s forests and river valley. You can choose to sled down or simply take the lift for the beautiful views of Rovaniemi and the Kemijoki River below.
At Ruka, the summer sled track stretches for one full kilometer, combining smooth curves, open sections, and wide turns for a fun and safe ride. The track is made of steel and designed to be enjoyed at your own speed. The VillageExpress lift takes you to the summit, where the track begins, and tickets can be purchased directly from the lower station. For even more thrills, Ruka is also home to the Ruka Coaster, Finland’s longest downhill alpine coaster that winds down the slopes with panoramic views! A fun and fast ride for both families and adventure seekers.
Adventure and Flexibility
Lapland’s summer sled tracks are suitable for all levels and ages, with simple controls and clear safety guidance. Children can ride with adults in two person sleds, while older participants can enjoy the ride solo. The activity is open only on dry days, as the tracks close during rain for safety reasons.
Most locations also offer lift only tickets for visitors who wish to admire the views without riding down. Combine your sledding adventure with a scenic lift ride, lunch at a summit café, or an afternoon exploring nearby trails.
