Discover Lapland’s SnowVillage: Ice Art, Dining, and Arctic Design

SnowVillage is a seasonal world of snow and ice built fresh each winter in Finnish Lapland. Located in Lainio, near Ylläs and Levi, the complex includes ice sculptures, a themed exhibition, snow suites, and restaurants sculpted from natural snow and ice.

What to Expect During Your Visit to Lapland SnowVillage

Open daily from 25 December to 6 April, SnowVillage invites visitors to explore a completely rebuilt snow-and-ice structure featuring a new theme each year. While the upcoming theme for the 2025–2026 season has not yet been announced, in 2024, visitors have experienced a beautiful underwater world theme, with sculpted seahorses, turtles, and glowing ocean scenes carved into snow and ice. Guests can walk through this two-hectare Arctic complex, which typically includes an ice bar, ceremony space, movie theater, snow suites, and a family-friendly ice slide. Entry is valid throughout the day, and guests are welcome to explore at their own pace.

Dining Options in a Unique Arctic Setting

Visitors can choose between several dining experiences within the snowy complex. The Ice Restaurant offers a three-course dinner served in an entirely frozen setting, while the rustic Krouvi log restaurant is open all day for café items and a soup buffet featuring meat, fish, and vegetarian options. In the evening, the Glass Restaurant opens with an à la carte menu and optional buffet meals for groups. Dining reservations are required for the Ice Restaurant and recommended for group meals at the Glass Restaurant. The Krouvi café and buffet are open daily without a reservation.

Optional Experiences: Overnight Stay and Private Celebrations

SnowVillage also offers a limited number of overnight stays in snow suites, including a three-course dinner in the Ice Restaurant, private after-hours access to the site, breakfast, and a visit to a nearby heated cabin with sauna and hot tub. Private events and ceremonies can also be arranged in two distinct venues: a seasonal snow chapel built by professional ice sculptors, and a rustic log-built wilderness chapel with candlelight and an open fire. These spaces offer a memorable setting for weddings and other winter gatherings.
