Siida Museum

Visit Siida Museum in Inari with Sámi Culture and Nature

Discover Sámi culture, northern nature, and the history of northern Lapland at Siida in Inari. This museum and nature center offers one of the most complete introductions to life in the far north, through exhibitions, an open-air museum, and research rooted in the Sámi homeland.

What to Expect during your visit to Siida Museum

At Siida, you explore a museum and nature center that brings Sámi culture and northern nature together as one whole. The visit introduces you to history, traditions, livelihoods, wildlife, and the changing Arctic environment, while also giving space to the Sámi perspective on land, memory, and cultural heritage. It is one of the strongest cultural visits in northern Lapland for travelers who want a deeper understanding of the region.

A major part of the experience is the balance between indoor and outdoor exploration. Inside, the main exhibition presents Sámi culture and northern nature together, while outside, the open-air museum extends the visit into a larger historical landscape. The outdoor trail is about 800 meters long, shaped like a reindeer herder’s lasso, and includes around 50 buildings and structures connected to the three Sámi cultures in Finland.

Programs and Exhibitions:

  • Main exhibition, These Lands Are Our Children
Siida’s main exhibition links Sámi culture and northern nature, showing how land, memory, and everyday life are closely connected in the Sámi cultural environment.
  • Open-Air Museum
An 800-meter trail with around 50 buildings and structures, grouped by cultural area and use, presenting Sámi built heritage, livelihoods, and traditional ways of life.
  • Skolt Sámi Heritage House
A summer destination in Sevettijärvi, where the heritage house and open-air displays present Skolt Sámi history, living conditions, and construction from two different periods.
  • Temporary exhibitions
These change through the year and can include themes connected to Sámi culture, Arctic nature, and current issues in the North.

Adventure and Flexibility

Siida works well for first-time visitors as well as for travelers looking for a deeper cultural visit. The combination of indoor exhibitions and the open-air museum gives the experience more variety than a standard museum visit, and guided tours are also available for groups who want more background.

Because it is located in Inari and open year-round, Siida is easy to include in different Lapland itineraries. It suits families, couples, and solo travelers alike, whether the aim is to learn more about Sámi culture, explore the open-air displays, or simply spend time in a museum that feels closely tied to the place around it.
