Trasti & Trine – Farm Stay and Cabins near Alta, Norway
Trasti & Trine is a working sled-dog farm near Alta, in Finnmark, Northern Norway, offering individually designed cabins and guesthouse rooms close to the farmyard and its Alaskan huskies. Each accommodation has its own character and story, with a restaurant led by chef Johnny Trasti built around local, seasonal ingredients.
Trasti & Trine sits at the edge of the forest near Alta, built around a working farmyard, dog kennels, and a small guesthouse. Guests can choose between individually themed forest cabins, each spread over two floors with large windows, a private bathroom, a small kitchenette, and views of the surrounding woodland, or rooms above the kitchen in the main guesthouse, which offer a similarly private and comfortable stay closer to the farm's daily life. Each cabin and room takes its name and character from a person, place, or story connected to the property, from Norwegian cabin heritage to the family's own history of dog sledding in Alaska. Breakfast is included throughout, and free Wi-Fi is available in every room.
At the heart of the farmyard, the Alaska Bar offers a relaxed gathering space filled with vinyl records and stories inspired by Arctic sled-dog culture, housed in one of the area's oldest post-war buildings. A wood-fired sauna can be added to any stay, offering a traditional Nordic space for warmth and quiet after a day outdoors. Dining is led by chef Johnny Trasti, Norwegian Chef of the Year in 2009, whose cooking draws on fish from the fjord, reindeer from the plateau, and berries, herbs, and other ingredients sourced locally through the changing seasons. Breakfast is served daily in the restaurant, with dinner and evening meals available to pre-order.
