Family Time in Rovaniemi

Six nights in Rovaniemi, split between two very different bases and designed for families who want a full week of classic Lapland experiences without feeling rushed. The first three nights are spent at Ounasvaara Chalets, a riverside property with private saunas at the base of Ounasvaara Hill, just outside the city. The final three nights move to Santa Claus Holiday Village, set directly on the Arctic Circle within walking distance of Santa Claus Village itself. In between, the week covers a reindeer farm visit, a northern lights campfire by the lake, ice skating at Kotatieva, a snowmobile safari, a full day at Santa Claus Village and Snowman World, and a husky safari to close out the trip.

Along the River

You'll land in Rovaniemi and collect your winter clothing before transferring to Ounasvaara Chalets, set along the Kemijoki River at the base of Ounasvaara Hill. Check into your chalet, complete with a private sauna, and settle in for the first part of the week. Dinner is included at the on-site restaurant as part of your half board stay.

Reindeer and a Lakeside Fire

The morning takes the family to a local reindeer farm, with a guided sleigh ride through the forest and time spent with the herd, plus hot drinks and a snack included. In the evening, head down to the lake for a northern lights campfire, gathering around the fire with hot drinks and snacks while watching the sky. Dinner is included at the chalet.

Ice Among the Trees

Spend the day at Kotatieva, skating on a track laid out among the trees, one of the more distinctive winter activities in the Rovaniemi area. A restaurant on site is available for a warm drink or something to eat between rounds. Dinner is included back at the chalet.

Snowmobiles and a New Base

The morning starts with a family-friendly snowmobile safari through the forests around Rovaniemi. After checking out of Ounasvaara Chalets, transfer to Santa Claus Holiday Village, set directly on the Arctic Circle within walking distance of Santa Claus Village. Check into your superior cottage, complete with a private sauna, and settle in for the second half of the week. Dinner is included at the resort.

A Full Day at the Village

The day is spent exploring Santa Claus Village on foot, right outside your door. A visit to Snowman World is included, with lunch at the Ice Restaurant on site, followed by time to cross the Arctic Circle and browse the village's shops and cafés. Dinner is included at the resort in the evening.

A Last Ride with the Dogs

Head to a local husky farm for a 7 to 10km sled run through the surrounding forest, with time to meet the dogs before setting off. The afternoon is free to enjoy the resort and its private sauna before a final dinner.

Departure

After breakfast, return your winter clothing and transfer to Rovaniemi Airport for your flight home.
